INTERMEDIATE LEVEL WORKSHOP:

Intermediate:  Able to design and create simple projects with minimal guidance; trained on all studio equipment.  Fusers are learning about special firing programs.

In this class we will be making a butterfly vase or votive holder.  

You will have to decide which mold you are going to drape over and that will determine the size of your piece.  Look at the draping molds in the catalogue and there you will also see a minimum and maximum dimension for your glass size.  Make note that squares of glass are measured on the diagonal.  A 10x10 square is approx. 14" on the diagonal, an 11x11 square is approx. 15" on the diagonal and an 8x8 square is approx. 11" on the diagonal.

Supplies needed:

• translucent glass in your choice of colour for the main body (orange, yellow and blue all work nicely)
• black glassline paint in a squeeze container or jar
• black glassline paint in a needle nose bottle
• black powder frit (optional)
• white opal glass cut into small circles or you can use white dots
• clear powder frit
• sifter
• chisel tip paint brush
• small square of sponge
• toothpicks
• P100 mask for use when applying powder frit

General supplies to bring to class: 

• Glass cutting tools: Toyo Cutter, Running Pliers, Grozers, Nippers, Cutting Surface (Quilt-type mats work best)
• Glues: Elmer’s (clear or white), Needle nosed bottle with non-aerosol hairspray
• Writing Tools: Black Sharpies (fine and regular), Pen & Pencil
• Other helpful items: Tweezers, Toothpicks, A carrying box for projects
• Safety Items: P-100 Mask, Safety glasses, Closed-toe shoes, Band-aids
