INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED LEVELS
Intermediate: Able to design and create simple projects with minimal guidance; trained on all studio equipment. Fusers are learning about special firing programs. Advanced: Able to design and create complex projects independently; familiar with specialized tools and supplies. Fusers are familiar with all firing programs. Join us in the classroom to make a colorful 6” pinwheel (see pictures) that can be used as a sun catcher.

This project is constructed by creating two layers of curved “swoop” shapes. The “swoops” will be cut from 3” wide strips of colored glass. Each layer uses 13 “swoops”. The instructors will have swivel hangers available to buy for $1.25. I really like the look of using all transparent, but you can use both transparent and/or opalescent.
See the chart below for help deciding how much glass you need depending on your design:
* If using one color - you’ll need to bring two 12”x3” strips of that color & one 4”x3” strip of that color.
* If using two colors - you’ll need to bring one 12”x3” strip & one 4”x3” strip of the 1st color. you’ll need to bring one 12”x3” strip & one 4”x3” strip,of the 2nd color.
* If using three colors - you’ll need to bring one 12”x3” strip of each color.
* If using the rainbow colors - you’ll need 4 “swoops” of five of the colors & 6 “swoops” of one color. (I would suggest bringing one 7”x3” strip of each color.) You’ll also need to bring: a thin black Sharpie, a 9”x12” tile to build your project on, kiln paper cut to 8”x8”, a container to wash your “swoops” in, and a lint-free towel, plus the things listed below.
General supplies to bring to class:
* Glass cutting tools: Toyo Cutter, Running Pliers, Grozers, Nippers, Cutting Surface (Quilt-type mats work best)
* Glues: Elmer’s (clear or white), Needle nosed bottle with non-aerosol hairspray * Writing Tools: Black Sharpies (fine and regular), Pen & Pencil
* Other helpful items:Tweezers, Toothpicks, A carrying box for projects * Safety Items: P-100 Mask, Safety glasses, Closed-toe shoes, Band-aids
* Bring a firing ticket - firing cost will be $3.50 - contour fuse.
