Workshop Level: Intermediate/Advanced: Able to create stained glass projects independently; experience with cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering. Familiar with specialized tools and supplies. Trained in all studio equipment.

Are you ready to challenge yourself to take your creativity & your SG skills to the next level? Work alongside the Mentor through all the steps of creating a SG panel of your choice. Pick a pattern/design and glass based on your creative style.

Learn how to transfer a design onto pattern paper
Learn how to build a jig
Learn tips to improve cutting, fitting, and building in order to avoid gaps
Learn tricks for better foiling and the application of using multiple widths of copper foil within a panel.
Improve soldering skills
Learn to frame your panel in lead came to accommodate a wood frame

There are many SG pattern books at the studio and online. Patti Kenmore and Stephanie Andrews also have many patterns that you are welcome to copy.

Bring your cartoon/pattern/design, copied (2) to the exact size of your panel on the FIRST DAY, along with your work board, and metal jigs, if you have them.

General supplies to bring to class:

Glass cutting tools: Toyo Cutter, Running Pliers, Breaking/Grozer Pliers, cutting oil, Water based glue stick, cutting surface (Quilt-type mats work best)

NEW MEMBER ONLY WORKSHOP

This workshop is for new members only. You are considered a new member for 6 months after joining.

In this workshop you will be designing a snowflake/star using diamond shapes (see pictures). You will be learning how to use the Beetle Bits cutting system to make the diamond shapes.

You can make star/snowflake to hang or to be a decoration for a 6”x6” plate. IF you are going to hang your project, you will need to purchase kiln (papyros) paper at the front desk during store hours. IF you are making a plate, you will need to provide the 6”x6” base sheet of glass. It is possible to add a few embellishments to your star/snowflake. Dots, stringers, and frit work best. The instructor will have some embellishment materials available for those who need them. The firing fee will be $1.00 for the hanging star/snowflake. The firing fee for the plate will be &1.50.

YOU MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS TO THIS WORKSHOP:

ALLNEW MEMBERS ONLY participants:

* two different colors of 1”x12” strips of COE 96 opal glass - the two strip colors should be complimentary to each other

*embellishment materials (dots, stringers & frit work best) if you have them

"Project Completion Assistance" is an opportunity to provide a structured time for you to work at the GAC-Stained Glass Studio on your unfinished stained-glass project no matter when you worked on it last. This will be a time for you to discuss with a stained-glass instructor any issue(s) you may have regarding your unfinished project and receive directions, suggestions and encouragement for you to complete your stained-glass creation.

Bring your own supplies needed to work on your project such as:

Glass cutting tools: Toyo Cutter, Running Pliers, Grozer, a Cutting Surface (Quilt-type mats work best),

Stained glass scissors and regular scissors
Writing Tools: Black and Silver Sharpies (fine and regular) markers
Other supplies: pins, copper foil, fid, flux (gel or paste), 60/40 solder, frames ruler, and your glass being used for your project, and a carrying box
Safety Items: Towel or a heat proof glove for soldering, mask (not a P-100), Safety glasses, Closed-toe shoes, Band-aids

PLEASE NOTE: there will be no cutting of glass on the clear plastic coverings on the “desk” counters

The studio will supply soldering guns and desk lighting.

Lap Grinding Open Hour

If you have been trained to set up, use and clean the lap grinder, bring your wobbly bowls and wonky edges to Open Hour. Fired pieces and trained members only. A lap grinder monitor will be on hand to ensure safety and proper use of the machine.

The instructor, Tim Abke, will be there to monitor and assist.

Workshop Level: Intermediate: Able to design and create simple projects with minimal guidance; trained on all studio equipment.

Students will choose a letter of the alphabet to work with. This will be communicated to the instructor before the first class as everyone will have different letters. Using that letter as a start, students will design flowers, birds, animal, leaves etc. as a part of the letter. (Refer to the picture for a reference). Design additions will be available or bring your own. This is a lesson in how to design your own pattern using a base design for a starting point. Be sure to bring a sharpened pencil with a good eraser.

General supplies to bring to class:

Toyo Cutter, Running Pliers, Grozers, Pattern Scissors, Regular scissors, Cutting Surface (Quilt-type or rubber mats work best), metal push pins, copper foil, flux, patina, brushes, soldering board.

INTERMEDIATE AND ABOVE WORKSHOP:

Intermediate: Able to design and create simple projects with minimal guidance; trained on all studio equipment. Fusers are learning about special firing programs.

Fossil Vitra is the process of layering powdered frit on a dried leaf, fern or flower and firing until the organic matter burns away and a frit impression is left on the glass. It is helpful if you have had experience using powder frit.

On a 9x12 tile you will make two 5x7 pieces to put in a frame.

In preparation, choose leaves, ferns or flowers, flatten them and dry them for at least a week before the workshop. The flatter the plants, the easier it will be for the frit to stay in place

Opalescent frit gives the greatest effect.

You must wear a P100 mask- no substitutes!

You may bring your own frit, or you may use the instructors' for a $2 charge.

Custom frames that accommodate the 2 panels of glass will also be available to purchase for $15 (frame purchase is limited to class participants at this time). In addition please bring:

2 pieces of clear glass that are 5x7

9x12 tile and papyrus to cover the tile

Dried flat ferns, flowers, or leaves

Powdered frit, if you have it; or use the instructors for $2 cash

Tweezers, paint brush, plastic spoons

To honor the upcoming 2 day Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration in November we will make traditional

sugar skulls.

Students must bring:

White opal glass - facemask will be cut to a 5" x 7" size (unless you choose to make it larger)

Black 1" circles for eyes & black 1 1/2" circle for nose

Bring many brightly colored dots, noodles, stringers, scraps, etc. to embellish mask.

This is a two day workshop to complete a simple landscape scene on flagstone on day one, and on day two, after grouting, learn the technique used to hand paint the grout to compliment your mosaic scene.

This is a continuation of the mesh workshop, but not a requirement.

Please bring your ideas for a small landscape scene, to complete on approximate 6" x 12" piece of tile on the first day.

Items needed:

Day 1: Weldbond glue, small rag, tweezers, cutting and nipping tools, painters tape

Day 2: Small container (cottage cheese or yogurt), mixing fork or palette knife, small rags, rubber gloves or finger cots, acrylic paint (if you have it), small paint brush and painters tape.

$15.00 due to instructor to pay for club supplies (flagstone and glass)

$6.00 due to instructor to pay for tiles, white grout, acrylic paint, thin set, sand and rocks

This is the Volunteer Signup to sort SWAG orders for this month - First Friday of the month (The exceptions are July and January deliveries on second Friday). This is only being sent to the group of people who have expressed interest in assisting. We are limiting signups to avoid having too many people resulting in a backup in the process.

The start time is fluid, we get a text from SWAG when they are about 20-30 minutes away. Expect that time to be somewhere between 10:30 and 1. We aim to be completed with the sorting of the order by 3pm when the studio closes.

Whether you are a new member or a member who is a bit rusty and needs a refresher course, please join us for this training to learn all about the ring saw. We will discuss the various blades that are available and when and how to use them.

You will learn to cut intricate patterns in glass for your art projects. We will discuss the difference between our various blades; regular, slim, diachroic, mega, and speed blades, as well as when and how to use them.

(They may not all be in operation at the time of your training, but we will discuss and answer questions about the various ones.)

This training will also include step-by-step instruction on how to clean the machines after you have used them.

You may bring a project to practice your cutting. We will provide scrap glass and patterns for you to practice on.

We will provide you with the pattern, glass, and supplies needed to complete the project. Tools will be available for those students who do not have their own. There will be a selection of glass available so you can choose your own colors for the project.

In preparation, choose leaves, ferns or flowers, flatten them and dry them for at least a week before the workshop.The flatter the plants, the easier it will be for the frit to stay in place

Opalescent frit gives the greatest effect.

You must wear a P100 mask- no substitutes!

You may bring your own frit, or you may use the instructors' for a $2 charge.

Custom frames that accommodate the 2 panels of glass will also be available to purchase for $15 (frame purchase is limited to class participants at this time). In addition please bring:

2 pieces of clear glass that are 5x7

9x12 tile and papyrus to cover the tile

Dried flat ferns, flowers, or leaves

Powdered frit, if you have it; or use the instructors for $2 cash

In this class you will learn how to cut basic shapes, cut on the inside of the line, and how and when to use the nippers and groziers. Fusers will learn to understand full, contour, tack, and slump firing programs and how and when to use Papyrus and Fiber paper. You will also learn how to cut circles, how to use ring saws and how to use grinders minimally. We are hoping to teach you to use the grinders only when all else fails.

Just an FYI, Gene is going to bring a pattern book from which you can pick a project if needed. We plan to do the class every 6 weeks as needed so you can pick a project for next time if you would like. You can bring glass for small projects like flowers, birds, x-mas items, etc.

Students will create a glass design on mosaic mesh to be used later in a project of the student's choice (flowerpots, roof tiles, etc.) . This is a technique class to learn an "indirect method" of creating glass mosaic designs on mesh. We will be using ONLY mesh as a base to design on. We will NOT be grouting the design in this class. A selection of designs will be provided and a list shared with students in advance of the class.

Learn how to safely cut thicker pieces of glass art such as “Pattern Bars” and “Scrap Boxes” (If you don’t know what these are, please ask a fellow member to let you take a look). Once you have created a pattern bar, scrap box, or other FUSED project that is thicker than 6mm (> 2 layers of glass), sign up for this training and BRING YOUR PROJECT with you to the training. No samples will be available.

Intermediate/Advanced: If you have attended this training before and you have created more items that need cutting, please feel free to sign up for a time slot.

Learn to cut pattern bars (7 layers thick, fused glass bar) or scrap boxes (1/2” fused glass bar). **PLEASE DO NOT BRING UNFUSED SINGLE SHEETS OF GLASS OR FUSED GLASS THAT IS ONLY 2 LAYERS THICK.

Does your fired project have a wonky edge? Does your bowl wobble? Our lap grinder can help you. It uses ever finer grits to make your project smoother and more finished. In this training workshop, you will learn safety tips; how to set up the lap grinder; how to change wheels and clean them; and how to clean up the grinder at the end.

Please bring 1-3 fired projects to work on.

The lap grinder can be messy, especially the first time. Wear old clothes or an apron; and old closed toe shoes. I recommend you remove your rings, bracelets or watches; and tie back long hair.

Class Description: At this workshop you will create a custom decorative piece using came that will add a “wow" factor to your indoor/outdoor plant collection. This stained-glass class is to learn a new technique called caming.

You will learn how to safely and effectively use a cutoff saw to accurately cut came at 45-degree angles.

Once you've cut your perfectly shaped metal pieces, you'll meticulously assemble them to frame using 3"x3" or 3”x 5" decorative glass squares.

The studio will supply the Zinc U-channel and H-channel came, soldering iron, Haako filter and scrap stained-glass.

You may bring your own favorite pieces of stained glass especially if you will be using red/orange/yellow glass.

ALL LEVELS

Bring your own supplies needed to work on your project such as:

Glass cutting tools: Toyo Cutter, Running Pliers, Grozer, a Cutting Surface (Quilt-type mats work best),

Stained glass scissors and regular scissors
Writing Tools: Black and Silver Sharpies (fine and regular) markers
Other supplies: pins, copper foil, fid, flux (gel or paste), 60/40 solder, frames ruler, and your glass being used for your project, and a carrying box
Safety Items: Towel or a heat proof glove for soldering, mask (not a P-100), Safety glasses, Closed-toe shoes, Band-aids

PLEASE NOTE: there will be no cutting of glass on the clear plastic coverings on the “desk” counters

The studio will supply soldering guns and desk lighting.

GVR Glass Art Club Annual Meeting

Come celebrate the end of the year at the Glass Artists Club Annual Meeting and social Saturday December 11, 2026 in the Anza Room at Santa Rita Springs GVR Center, right above our studio.

Please bring an appetizer or dessert of your choice if you want. Club provides water and coffee, anything else please BYOB.

We will have our annual reports with slides, results of the board of directors election, volunteer recognition, and door prizes throughout the afternoon of a collection of amazing items, including gifts from our generous friends at Southwest Art Glass.

Parking is available above and behind our complex with a bridge leading directly to the Anza Room upstairs.

We will be collecting non-perishable food for our local food banks to help our neighbors in need, dog and cat food is also needed. A collection bin is in lobby of our studio now and day of meeting we will have collection boxes available in the Anza Room.

Looking forward to seeing all our new and existing members to have fun and celebrate!

WORKSHOP LEVELS

Intermediate/Advanced: If you have attended this training before and you have created more items that need cutting, please feel free to sign up for a time slot.

Workshop location: Ramada

Time Slot scheduling: Please schedule yourself in one of the 15-minute sessions.

Learn to cut pattern bars (7 layers thick, fused glass bar) or scrap boxes (1/2” fused glass bar). **PLEASE DO NOT BRING UNFUSED SINGLE SHEETS OF GLASS OR FUSED GLASS THAT IS ONLY 2 LAYERS THICK.

Please bring a magic marker for measuring and Vaseline to cover the lines before cutting.

Please bring 1-3 fired projects to work on.

The lap grinder can be messy, especially the first time. Wear old clothes or an apron; and old closed toe shoes. I recommend you remove your rings, bracelets or watches; and tie back long hair.

Whether you are a new member or a member who needs a refresher session, please join us for this training to learn all about the drill press and how to use it for your glass art projects.

We will use both the 1/8” & 1/4” size bits. **PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR OWN DRILL BITS TO THE CLASS. Both the 1/8” and 1/4” can be purchased in the store.
